This place is called “Shirakawa-go”, and its located in Gifu prefecture.

It is located almost center of Japanese map in Honshu island.

About Shirakawago
Shirakawa-go is a small village with several traditional Japanese house.
This type of Traditional house is build by Thatched roof and woods only, it is actually not allowed to build a new one like this anywhere in Japan anymore because of Japanese law.
So the people in this village are trying every year to maintain this limited houses.
You can actually stay there and experience the old days in Japan.
They have fire inside the house, people gather together to have dinner. I am sure you will have unforgettable memories and feel the real Japanese life.
In winter, Shirakawa-go have illumination event, so that you can see fantastic houses in white snow and its small light on them.
